Icon - From Image
From RealWorld Wiki
This document transformation creates icon with several image formats from a single source image.
[edit] Global settings
The settings in the lower part of the configuration dialog apply to all generated image formats.
The Transparency box determines how to handle transparency. In addition to the usual option (simply using alpha channel), it is possible to automatically detect background color from corner pixels or manually assign the background color.
The Gamma boxes allow definition of gamma correction values for source and destination. If the values are left on 1, no correction is applied. If the edges on a the generated icon seem to be more jagged than expected, try increasing both values to ~ 2. (Typical gamma of a PC display can be up to 2.5).
The File type box determines the type of the generated icon. Note that Mac icons only support selected image formats. When generating Mac icons, unsupported formats shall not be specified.
The Reserve space for shadow box determines, whether image size should be reduced to make space for the specified shadow effect.
[edit] Generated image list
The box in the left upper corner of the window displays list of generated image formats. Buttons above the list can be used to add or remove image formats.
[edit] Per-image settings
Properties of an image format selected in the box by the left side of the window are displayed to the right of the box. Each image format has its own set of properties.
The Width field defines width of the generated image and also its height, if the height is not specified manually (you can generate non-square icons if you specify different values).
The Colors box determines color depth of the generated image. If the format lacks smooth alpha, it is possible to blend the image with typical Windows 2000 toolbar color by enabling the Optimize box (recommended).
The values in the Object edge enhancements allow specifying a per-format shadow effects. Smaller images should have more dense shadows, which are relatively (to the source image size) larger.
It is also possible to sharpen or soften the generated image.
Note: If the source image 3rd dimension is larger than 1, a icon is created from every plane and finally the icons are combined as layers.
